Members of a board of education for a general powers school district are elected by the voters of a community for terms of six years, as provided by the school district's bylaws. School Board members begin their terms in January, following their November election.

Mr. Richard Kowalski

President - Board Member Since 1987

EDUCATION: RN MSA COHN-SFAAOHN; Delta College School of Nursing, RN; Saginaw Valley State University, BA in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude); Central Michigan University, MSA in Health Care Administration; Served in US Army 1968-1969, Republic of Vietnam, Combat Medic Mr. Kowalski became a board member to improve the education of Bangor students. He invites members of the Bangor community to consider volunteering anytime in the schools. The students would love the interactions!

FAMILY: Wife, Claudine; two sons, Aaron and Scott, both graduates of John Glenn High School; two grandsons, Jacob and Noah, both students of Bangor Township.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Enjoying grandchildren & life

MR. PATRICK SHAFFER

EDUCATION: BS, Central Michigan University 1975; MA, Central Michigan University 1980

FAMILY: one daughter & son-in-law

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: golf, snow ski and work in his rose garden

Mr. Shaffer became a board member because he knows he can provide positive input and direction in very difficult economic times. Mr. Shaffer’s goal as a board member is to provide Bangor’s students with the best possible programs and educational opportunities that we can.

MR. BRIAN GALLAGHER

Trustee - Board Member Since 2019

EDUCATION: Graduate of John Glenn High School (1998), Bachelor’s of Science from Saginaw Valley State University (2002), and a Master’s of Science - Physicians Assistant from Central Michigan University (2004).

FAMILY: Married to Theresa Gallagher. Three children; Lauren, William, and Katherine, all students of Bangor Township Schools.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: After serving the Bay Region for over 10 years as a family practice and emergency medicine PA, have began serving at the Chief Clinical Officer for TribalEM managing, staffing and working in emergency departments on Native American land. When not working, he is in the auditorium, natitorium or the stands at Bangor Township sporting events cheering on the Bobcats and supporting his children in their theater performances and athletic events. He also enjoys golf and being on the water in the Bangor Township region.

Mr. Mark Seymour

EDUCATION:
 1985 JGHS Graduate, Delta College, DeVry Technical Institute, Honorable Medical Discharge United States Navy Nuclear Program.

FAMILY: Married to Tammy Seymour, two children: Matt & Chelsea, two stepchildren: Dana & Kiah, and one granddaughter: Riley.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Spending time with my family, watching college football, biking with my wife, and spending summers up north.

Mr. Seymour’s goals as a board member are:

  • To focus on providing all students with the best education possible
  • Helping to maintain our districts facilities and keep them functional
  • Ensuring that our district remains fiscally responsible

Mr. Brian Tobin

Treasurer - Board Member Since 2006

EDUCATION: Engineering Degree, GMI-General Motors Institute (now Kettering University)

FAMILY: Married to Debra Tobin. Three children; Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Kristen

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Attending athletic events of his children, woodworking, construction projects

Mr. Tobin became a board member to help Bangor Township Schools become the “best” school district in the area.

Mr. Tobin’s goals as a board member are:

  • To focus on and improve the district’s academic performance.
  • Assist in keeping the financial aspect of the district sound.
  • Ensure the district’s buildings and grounds are functional and well maintained.

Mr. Jason Forgash

Secretary - Board Member Since 2017

EDUCATION: Graduated from Ferris State University in 1991 with a Bachelor's of Science degree. Jason is currently the President and COO of Bay Plastics Machinery in Bangor Township.

FAMILY: Married to Margaret Forgash. Two children; Dakota and Garett

HOBBIES/INTERESTS:

Mr. Forgash moved back to Bangor with his family in 2005. After enrolling both of his children in the Bangor Township Schools, he became more and more interested in the district - its successes and its struggles. He hopes to become more active in working with the administration to continue to improve the education and extracurricular activities for the students of this district.

MISS KRISTIN WESTON

Board Member Since 2021


EDUCATION: Graduate of John Glenn High School (2018); Current student at Saginaw Valley State University pursuing a Chemistry degree.

FAMILY: Parents are Shannan and Russ Weston. Sister; Katelyn Weston, student at John Glenn High School.

HOBBIES/INTERESTS: After graduating from Bangor Schools, Kristin continued her education at Saginaw Valley State University pursuing a Chemistry degree. Kristin is dedicated to her community and is excited to serve on the Bangor Township School Board. Her current hobbies include traveling, sports, and creating custom designs.
