Bangor Township Virtual School is proud to announce two new community partnerships to enhance and enrich our student educational experience.
BTVS is excited to share a new partnership with Herter Music Center in Bay City. BTVS students enrolled in a virtual music course will be eligible for eight half-hour individual lessons at Herter Music Center. These lessons include voice, piano and guitar as well as a number of instruments found on the Herter Music Center website. We will not be facilitating instrument rental, but if your student has an instrument available they wish to learn how to play, this is an awesome opportunity.
BTVS will also be partnering with YMCA Bay City to provide enrichment opportunities for students enrolled in our physical education courses. BTVS students in the YMCA partnership will be eligible to take five 30 or 60 minute lessons in personal training, sport specific training or swimming at no cost to them. Included in this will be a two month membership to the YMCA Bay City and all of the associated benefits.
We look forward to building more relationships within our community and providing BTVS students with more opportunities to grow as a student and a person within our program.

Hello everyone and welcome back to school. My name is Mr. Thomas Atkinson and I have recently been approved as the new Director of the Bangor Township Virtual School. I am coming to BTVS as the director after spending the last five years teaching social studies and computers in three different districts throughout the state of Michigan. Most recently, I spent the last three years as a high school social studies teacher and head football coach at Whittemore-Prescott High School. My wife Chelsea, a graduate from John Glenn, and I are excited to be moving our family into the area and starting this new journey.
I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of Bangor Township Schools, and my hope is to provide this school system with a dynamic administrator who will always put the interests of their students first. The beauty of this virtual school program is that it can be whatever you or your child needs to achieve their educational goals. I look forward to meeting all of you and finding out how I can help to provide each of the students here with their best educational opportunity. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Dear Virtual Bobcats,
It has been my privilege to serve as the Director of the Bangor Township Virtual School for the past six years. I have been truly blessed to have had the honor of working with all of your families, some of you for many years, and many of you this year due to an unprecedented pandemic. Our program’s reputation in the community has grown to be the standard for online learning, and it is because of the commitment to excellence of our incredible BTVS families, our Mentor Teachers Mrs. Shawn Collier, Mrs. Leanne Gauthier, Mrs. Kathy Kosecki, Mrs. Amy Mika, and Mr. Nick Sharp, and all of #bobcatnation cheering us on!
After thorough personal reflection, I have accepted the position of assistant principal at Christa McAuliffe Middle School. This career move directly aligns with my personal vision and mission to be the best version of myself in my career as an educator. Although I am excited to start this new chapter, I am saddened to leave my BTVS students and families. However, I have full confidence that our shared district vision and mission will ensure the Bangor Township Virtual School will continue to thrive.
Over the last six years, we have built a program designed to allow students the freedom to learn what they want, when they want, and where they want while continuing to provide innovative opportunities. In the 2020-2021 school year, we have persevered together, shown true grit and resilience, celebrated incredible academic success, and had our largest senior class and highest graduation rate ever! I may be moving on, but this is the strongest BTVS has ever been thanks to your ongoing support.
Thank you for the memories, for trusting BTVS as your online provider, and for the most incredible school year to end my time at #BTVS1!
Go Bobcats!
