Tuesday, June 3, 2025

Today we will run a Monday/Friday (NO FLEX) Schedule. Tomorrow we will run a ½ day schedule. School will be dismissed tomorrow at 10:30 for summer break.

Loaner chromebooks will NOT be available for check to students out this week. If you have a loaner chromebook checked out currently, it MUST be returned to the library today.

Attention any Students interested in running cross country in the fall - please join the team REMIND group: @jghsxc to stay up to date on plans for the fall. Summer conditioning will begin after 4th of July and official practices will begin in August. Please ensure that you have a valid sports physical and a Final Forms account through JGHS athletics. There are cross country teams for both John Glenn and CMMS depending on your grade level. Please reach out to Coach Lind if you have any questions.

Summer Open Tennis - Head Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis Coach Mr. Miller will be holding Open Tennis over the summer break. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30. It will be on a drop in basis, no appointment needed. It will start June 10th and end July 8th. Stop by Mr. Miller’s room for a flyer.

Current 6th graders - if you have not selected a locker partner yet and would like to, please email Mr. Putnam no later than tomorrow, Tuesday, June 3.

Attention 8th Graders: Today is your celebration and open field day! You will go to first hour as normal, and be called out from there. After the ceremony, you will receive your yearbook and have a yearbook signing in the gym. Then, after lunch you will go to 5th hour for attendance then outside for: kickball, tennis, football, sidewalk chalk, or just hanging out--you get to choose. Mr Kasemeyer's room will be open for Chromebook games and Ms Johnson's will be open for bracelet making.

We have lots of drinks and snacks for the afternoon (you cannot bring drinks or snacks in the football stadium). We are so excited to give you a fun afternoon to celebrate the end of your middle school years!

If you haven’t done so already, any checked out Library books must be returned today to the library.

We would like to begin by welcoming members of our STEM Club for our first announcements….

The CMMS Chief Science Officers, Maddie, Hattie, Emerson, and Nat, put on an amazing STEM Night last night. There were awesome activities and games for families; everyone had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who came and made this an awesome experience.

Four STEM-themed gift baskets were given away last night. Congrats to our winners. If you were not present to win, please come down to the office at the end of the day to get your prizes.

This means students MUST bring their own, fully charged, district issued chromebook to school every day. Teachers, if a student in your class who is NWEA testing needs a chromebook, please call the office to let us know you are sending a student down to get a chromebook. The Chromebook will be checked out to the teacher, not the student, and the teacher can keep that chromebook in their classroom to be used for testing throughout the rest of the day if needed. It can be returned to the library or office at the end of the day.

Attention Students, Kona Ice is coming to the John Glenn Tennis Courts next Monday. It will be parked by the tennis courts during the Bay County Tennis Tournament from 10:30 to 2:30 selling Kona Ice Cones. Part of the proceeds goes to Coach Miller's Girls Tennis Team! John Glenn Girls Basketball Summer Camp - for Grades 6th, 7th and 8th graders - Camp will be held on June 16 through June 18 - please see the information posted on our website and our CMMS Facebook page for registration information and times.

8th graders - To celebrate the end of our middle school years, 8th grade students will make a Guess Who board in the 8th grade hallway. If you would like to participate please bring a printed baby picture to either Mr. Kasemeyer or Mrs. Schmidt. The last day we will take photos from you is Friday May 16th.

This week, May 12 - 16, will be the last week to check out library books from our school library. Library book checkout will close starting May 19th and library books should start being returned starting the week of May 19th. .

For those students interested in Cheerleading at JGHS next year - packets are still available in the front office. Please pick one up today if you are interested in joining the JGHS Cheerleading program. Packets are due back by May 16th. Packets can be turned in to Miss. Clyde (Rm 9 during 1st or 6th hours) or submitted through the band app.

Attention, 7th Graders! - If you're looking to make a real impact next year, here's your chance to step up and become a WEB Leader! Applications will be shared with you during flex on Tuesday and the deadline to complete is by the end of the day on Thurs, May 15. If you have already filled an application out, you do NOT need to do it again!! If you need more information on what it means to be a W.E.B. leader - check the bulletin board under daily announcements.

Today during Flex Overlap, our JGHS Boys Varsity Basketball Coach will be meeting with any boys who are interested in getting more information about summer basketball camps. If this is something you are interested in, please listen for the announcement during flex overlap to come down and meet with Coach Clyde.

John Glenn Girls Basketball Summer Camp - for Grades 6th, 7th and 8th - Camp will be held on June 16 through June 18 - please see the information posted on our website and our CMMS Facebook page for registration information and times.

Please take note of these 2 very important announcements from our technology department: #1) Any chromebook screens that are broken moving forward will not be able to be fixed. #2) If you have an unpaid bill for a broken chromebook you will not be allowed to borrow a loaner chromebook until the bill has been paid. As a reminder, students should be coming to school every day with their assigned chromebook and it should be charged.

Have you ever seen a stray cat or dog walking across the road? Did you want to help the animal? Well, here is your chance! Several of our CMMS students are working on an honors project for Mr. Kasemeyer's class and need your help! Do you have old blankets, cat or dog beds, soft fabric, unused dog toys, or treats? Then bring them in! There will be boxes in the office, Mr. Kasemeyer's room (room 20), and the library - please donate today and you can make them more comfortable!

The Tik Tok trend to put lead into the Chromebook will be an in-school suspension moving forward. This is a fire hazard and damaging to school property.

Attention 8th grade students make sure you complete the google slide for 8th grade celebration BY TODAY. If you have any questions about this, please see Mr. Kasemeyer.

Attention 8th graders looking to earn volunteer community service hours - Bay County Crime Stoppers is offering Bay County 8th Graders the opportunity to earn community service hours this summer which WILL COUNT toward the required hours needed in high school if you wish to join the National Honor Society or if you plan to apply for college scholarships. Volunteers will be helping at the “RIBFEST” in late July by directing cars where to park at the event. If you sign up with a friend you will be assigned to work together. Volunteers will receive Little Caesars pizza, gatorade, and ice water throughout the day, as well as a FREE admission wristband for all four days of RIBFEST. This is a fun and easy way to earn those valuable community service hours. If you are interested, pick up a signup form from the CMMS office. Once you’ve filled it out, return the completed form to the CMMS office and you will receive a phone call this summer prior to the event to see if you still want to help.

6th, 7th and 8th graders - Bay City Department of Public Safety is inviting you to attend the 2025 Youth Leadership Program. It will be held on Wednesdays beginning on June 11 and running through July 30. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the role of a public safety officer, firefighter training, evidence collection, impacts of social media, team building courses and water safety. The program will also include field trips to places like Frankenmuth Aerial Park, YMCA, the fire station and much more! For the month of May our student spotlight will be on those showing excellence in science.

Mrs. Windiate has recognized Daviney in 6th grade science. Mrs. Windiate says, "Daviney is an outstanding female scientist! Daviney is serious about learning. She pays attention and puts her best effort into all classwork. Follow directions 100% of the time! She is always very kind and respectful to all. She always works well with others in her team, always.

Attention 8th graders looking to earn volunteer community service hours - Bay County Crime Stoppers is offering Bay County 8th Graders the opportunity to earn community service hours this summer which WILL COUNT toward the required hours needed in high school if you wish to join the National Honor Society or if you plan to apply for college scholarships. Volunteers will be helping at the “RIBFEST” in late July by directing cars where to park at the event. If you sign up with a friend you will be assigned to work together. Volunteers will receive Little Caesars pizza, Gatorade, and ice water throughout the day, as well as a FREE admission wristband for all four days of RIBFEST. This is a fun and easy way to earn those valuable community service hours. If you are interested, pick up a signup form from the CMMS office. Once you’ve filled it out, return the completed form to the CMMS office and you will receive a phone call this summer prior to the event to see if you still want to help.
