Today we are meeting Ms. Kimberlee Eckerd, one of our enthusiastic Kindergarten Teachers at Bangor West Elementary! 📚🎒 Ms. Eckerd has been a part of our district family for six years, bringing joy and creativity into her classroom every day.
After beginning her teaching career here in Bangor, Ms. Eckerd recently enhanced her skills by earning a Master's in Literacy. 🎓✨ She is passionate about forming lasting bonds with her students and their families, finding immense reward in these relationships. ❤️👨👩👧
When she's not shaping young minds, Kimberlee loves to bake 🍪, dive into a good book 📖, and spend quality time with her adorable goldendoodle, Axel! 🐶💕
Kim is inspired by the whimsical wisdom of "Alice in Wonderland," by Lewis Carroll, often embracing the idea that "sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." 🐇🕳️

Say hello to Mrs. Katie Zacharko, our Young Fives Teacher at Bangor Lincoln! 🍎📚 Katie has been nurturing our district's youngest learners since 2012, creating a fun and engaging environment where "play is the work of childhood." - Jean Piaget 🧸🖍️
Katie began her educational journey at SVSU, where she graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education, along with minors in Early Childhood, Social Studies, and English. She furthered her expertise by earning a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction in 2020. 🎓📘
Her teaching career started as a student teacher in 2008, and after teaching first grade and kindergarten at a charter school in Flint, she returned to Bangor to specialize in Young Fives. Over the years, she's made a significant impact, especially with her return to Bangor Lincoln this year to lead a new Young Fives section. 🌱✨
What drives Katie is the joy of seeing her students' development—the sparkle in their eyes when they master a new skill is her greatest reward. She believes that "Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." - Teddy Roosevelt 💪🏼🌟
Off duty, Katie is all about family; she’s a proud mom of three boys, and her husband also teaches in the district. 🏡💕 Besides teaching, she loves her collection of Sharpies and Post-It notes, and did we mention she’s left-handed? 🖊️🤚

Meet Emma & Madalyn, the STEMatic Duo from John Glenn High School 🏫, whose project just earned third place at the A.H. Nickless Innovation Award.🥉
Emma and Madalyn created a clothing kit to ease the chemotherapy process for pediatric cancer patients, including a sweatshirt-blanket, an eye mask, and non-slip socks. 🧦 These young innovators each won $1,000 in scholarships and earned a $5,000 STEM grant for John Glenn. Big thanks to Mr. Shawn Maison for coaching the team. 🏆
