The John Glenn Girls wrestling team had another great tournament finish third by 1 point to Millington and just 6 points shy of 1st place Oxford. The team finished with 6 medalists. Four finalists and two consolation finalists. Freshman Jayden Chandler was our sole champion at 190 pound. Mya Kukulski had a great finals Match losing a decision victory to #1 ranked Green 11-4. Gracie Fernette fell to #3 ranked Stenz of Alpena in the finals. Halie Grauherr finished 2nd at 155. Gabriella Cross earned her first medal of her freshman season finishing 3rd at 120. Vivian Arnold finished 4th in the 120A bracket. This was a stacked chart as she lost matches to the #5 and #6 ranked girls in the state. The team wrestled really well and Liya Bossbach and Addison Mahoney had strong showings and helped our team standing by making it to the consolation semifinals. It was a really good day and the growth and level of wrestling is continuing to improve weekly. I am so proud of this group of girls.

Girls wrestling recap from Coach Briggs πΎ
"We could really give so many shout outs with this young team! The first year girls are growing so quickly. The team is really starting to focus in on good technique and correcting mistakes. I cannot believe the growth they are showing already. We still have our mistakes, but they are really overshadowing them with grit. Every girl deserve mentioning, but I really want to recognize four that have put together some special accomplishments so far"
Vivian Arnold is now 13-1 on the season with her sole loss in the finals to a ranked wrestler.
Gracie Fernette has lost to two ranked wrestlers and a phenomenal match last week with Viv.
Freshman Jayden Chandler has three losses all to girls ranked in the top 10.
Freshman Mya Kukulski has four losses 2 to the #1, a loss to #2, and another top ten wrestler.
Freshman Addison Mahoney has also managed to place in every tournament this season.
" It is pretty special that they have medaled each tournament against great competition. You are all amazing and I am so proud just keep slowing it down and fighting for it!!!

A heads up for anyone traveling tonight to watch our varsity girls and boys take on Alma at Alma. Alma only does digital ticketing through GoFan but their concessions do accept cash and card. As well Alma would like to let everyone know:
Tonight we are in "The Spirit of Giving" for the Alma Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball games.
The Alma Varsity Boys Basketball team and the AHS Student Council collected over 130 food and hygiene items, along with $70, to help restock the AHS Panther Den. A huge thank you to 104.9 WQBX for five years of donating student section t-shirts. This year's "Shake Down the Thunder" shirt helped encourage and kick off the donations. A portion of the shirts were also donated by Mid-State Screen Printing and Embroidery.
The Alma Varsity Girls Basketball team will also be collecting items at the game to donate to the Community Cabinet, sponsored by State Farm - Katie Tobias.
Items for the Panther Den will also continue to be collected at the concessions stand this evening, as Sports Boosters will exchange a free popcorn for full sized hygiene items or non perishable food items.
Thank you for giving back to our community!

JG 64 (2-0, 1-0) League game
SV 38 (0-2, 0-1)
Halftime score was 34-13 John Glenn up.
JG Stats
Aleeyah Alonzo 20 pts
Aubrey Moore 16 pts (14 in 1st half), 8 reb, 6 asi, 4 stl
Allie Gabel 13 pts
βWe came out strong from the get-go and built a nice lead in the first half. 2nd half we got sloppy offensively, but our energy was there defensively and thatβs all you can ask for in a game like this. We had a good week and a lot to build on for next. A lot of positives for sure.β
Next game @ Roscommon on Tuesday.
