We have three athletes up for Athlete of the week https://www.mlive.com/highschoolsports/2024/03/second-chance-poll-salutes-bay-city-athlete-of-the-week-candidates-for-march-18.html Please vote for Logan DeMarest, Preston Pudvan, and Matt Shaffer! Way to go BOBCATS πŸ’ͺ Cast your vote for the final Athlete of the Week of winter sports as often as you’d like until the poll closes at 12:01 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024. LOGAN DeMAREST, JOHN GLENN It was a mission-accomplished moment for the senior in his final match with the John Glenn wrestling team. DeMarest gave Glenn its first state champion in 29 years, winning top honors at 215 pounds in Division 2. β€œHe’s a guy who does all the right things,” coach Matt Bishop said. β€œHe stays after practice for extra work, he goes to the gym and gets his lifts in. He’s really special in that way. It’s been his goal since he first set foot in John Glenn to be a state champion.” DeMarest went 44-1 on the year. PRESTON PUDVAN, BAY AREA THUNDER When the Thunder hockey teams needs some offensive punch, it turns to Pudvan. An electric performer on the ice, he is delivering another strong campaign for the cooperative program. β€œPreston is an incredibly hard worker who leads by example on and off the ice,” coach P.J. Engelberts said. A third-year standout for the squad, he led the team in scoring and was named MVP a year ago. The John Glenn junior has tallied 30 points on the season, including a three-point effort vs. Gaylord on Saturday. MATT SHAFFER, JOHN GLENN The John Glenn wrestling team can feel confident each time Shaffer steps on the mat. The senior has shown throughout his career that he’s big-match ready and he looks poised for a fantastic finish. β€œMatt’s had a really nice return back from the holiday with a 5-0 start and two wins against state-ranked opponents,” coach Matt Bishop said. Shaffer won a district title and qualified for the state finals a year ago. He energized the crowd at Glenn’s assembly dual against Midland Dow last week, scoring a pin in 1:22 at 144 pounds.
